This unit has been developed as a guide for students who are required to write an academic essay.
There are four content areas to assist you to research and write a quality essay:
-
Researching - in this area you will research and review resources that can be used as evidence in your essay. It is important in your essay to back up your ideas with credible research. in this section we will cover the CRAAP test for evaluating resources and where to find useful evidence.
-
Introductions set the scene for your essay but are not always written first. In this section we will cover what to include in the introduction to ensure that you start the essay in a way that will maximize your result.
-
PEEL Paragraphs - the body of your essay is where your evidence is contained but you must also evaluate the evidence and provide your "take" on it. This section will provide a fool proof method of writing body paragraphs using PEEL.
-
Conclusions - are more than a summary of your essay they show that you have evaluated and thought about the issues. This section will show you how to end your essay so that you get the best possible result.
